Australian Couple with Dwarfism Have Three Children Against All Odds

It’s natural for people to be curious about others’ lives, especially when something seems a little different from what they’re used to. Unfortunately, this curiosity often leads to personal questions and unwanted opinions. For example, newly married couples are commonly asked, “When are you having kids?” And once they do, the next question is, “When’s the next one?”

But for one unique couple from Australia, the questions were even more intense—and sometimes cruel.

Charli Worgan and her husband Cullen both live with different forms of dwarfism. And despite facing harsh criticism and public judgment, they made a decision from the heart: they chose to build a family together. Many people questioned their choice to have children, as if it was anyone else’s decision to make.

When Charli gave birth to their first daughter, she happily shared the news on Instagram. She didn’t expect the wave of attention that followed—some of it kind, but much of it filled with judgment. People began asking invasive questions and criticizing the couple for wanting to become parents.

As Charli became pregnant with their third child, she decided to speak openly about the challenges she faced. She shared how she had to go through emotionally and physically painful procedures, such as genetic testing, to ensure the baby’s health. Each pregnancy came with high risks—their child could inherit one form of dwarfism, neither, or both. The last option was considered fatal by doctors.

She explained: “When most people at 12 weeks are celebrating their pregnancy, I was lining up for Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)—a test involving a large needle through my abdomen to collect placental tissue. It carries a 2% risk of miscarriage, but it was necessary to check the baby’s genes.”

Their first two daughters, Tully and Tilba, both have forms of dwarfism. Charli and Cullen wanted to make sure their third baby didn’t inherit both types, which would not be compatible with life. It was a tough and brave journey filled with difficult decisions.

Fortunately, their baby boy, Rip, was born healthy in February 2021. He joined his two big sisters in a loving and joyful home. Charli says he is thriving just like them, and the family of five couldn’t be happier.

Despite criticism, Charli stands strong in her beliefs. She wrote: “I’ve received a lot of backlash for choosing to have children with these odds. But sharing this small part of our journey helps others understand that it’s not a simple decision. It’s about love, hope, and being kind.”

She added: “I’m tired, but I’m so grateful and lucky. There’s no ‘perfect’ way to do motherhood, and I truly believe there’s no ‘wrong’ way either.”

This remarkable couple has proven that love, courage, and family go far beyond society’s expectations. They beat the odds—and continue to thrive together.

We wish this beautiful family of five all the happiness and blessings life can offer.
